The United Democratic Party (UDP) has sternly warned against individuals falsely claiming to represent the party and its leadership while campaigning for a presidential candidate other than H.E. Ousainou Darboe. In a statement released today, the UDP clarified that neither Darboe nor the party’s leadership has authorized such activities, labeling them as deliberate attempts to mislead the public.

The UDP reiterated its unwavering support for H.E. Ousainou Darboe as its duly elected presidential flagbearer, chosen through transparent and democratic internal processes. “His selection reflects the collective will of our grassroots members and confidence in his integrity, experience, and leadership,” the party stated. The UDP plans to formally present Darboe to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) as its presidential candidate, urging members and supporters to focus on a shared vision for a united and prosperous Gambia.

The party condemned the spread of misinformation, drawing parallels to the 2021 elections, underscoring the dangers of deceit in political discourse. The UDP called on Gambians to remain vigilant against “distractions motivated by personal ambition” that undermine the people’s will. It emphasized the need for truth, transparency, and accountability at this critical juncture in the nation’s history.

In a direct challenge to President Adama Barrow’s administration, the UDP accused it of rampant corruption and mismanagement of public resources. The party proposed three key measures to restore public trust: independent audits of public institutions to close corruption loopholes, recovery of misappropriated public assets, and stronger enforcement of anti-corruption laws to safeguard national wealth.

“The UDP stands united in the pursuit of a Gambia free from corruption and mismanagement,” the statement read. “Gambians deserve a government that is accountable, transparent, and committed to their welfare.” The party reaffirmed its commitment to building a just and prosperous future, calling for unity and vigilance to overcome the nation’s challenges.

The UDP urged supporters to rally behind Darboe’s leadership and reject divisive tactics.
