In a sizzling blend of tradition, tenacity, and national pride, Gambian culinary whiz Aminata Bah is on a mission to etch her name—and her country’s—into the annals of history. The passionate home cook is training rigorously to shatter a Guinness World Record for the longest cooking marathon right here in The Gambia, proving that big dreams can simmer from humble beginnings.

“I’ve always loved cooking. It’s been part of my life since childhood,” Bah told The Alkamba Times with a warm smile, her eyes sparkling with determination. “Now, I want to turn that passion into something bigger by attempting a Guinness World Record in The Gambia. It’s a big dream for me.”

What fuels this 30-something culinary trailblazer? A profound urge to honor her roots and rally her nation. “What inspired me most is challenging myself, testing my strength and determination,” she explained. “This isn’t just about cooking for long hours—it’s about proving Gambians can dream big and achieve something the world will remember,” Bah emphasized that every stir of her pot carries the spirit of her people. “When I cook, I carry the spirit of my people in me. This journey is for every Gambian who believes in hard work and unity.”

Preparation has been no stroll in the kitchen. Bah is endurance-training by whipping up feasts for marathon stretches, mastering time management, energy conservation, and essential rest breaks. “I remind myself every day that this is about endurance and passion,” she said. “I stay positive and keep my focus on the goal, even though it’s very challenging.”

Building her dream team is underway, with interest pouring in from across the country. “Many people have shown interest, but I’m carefully selecting those who are committed, disciplined, and share my passion,” Bah revealed. “With God’s grace, the right team will come together.” She’s also poring over Guinness World Records’ strict guidelines—covering everything from cooking duration to documentation and breaks—to ensure a flawless attempt.

But Bah’s ambitions extend far beyond the record book. She aims to serve up a global feast of Gambian and West African cuisine. “It’s very important to me to promote our traditional dishes,” she said. “These meals tell our story and represent the heart of every Gambian home. I’ll also include popular West African dishes to show our cultural connection across the region.” For Bah, this marathon isn’t just a test of stamina—it’s a flavorful showcase. “We are a small country with a big heart, and our food carries that same spirit. Through this cooking marathon, I want the world to taste Gambian food and feel our culture, love, and unity.”

To pull off this epic event, Bah is rallying Gambians at home and abroad. “My motivation will come from the love and encouragement of Gambians,” she urged. “I hope companies, brands, and influencers will come forward to support me—because this is not just my journey, it’s our journey. It’s for The Gambia.” She envisions a vibrant atmosphere alive with music, audience interaction, and positive energy, while staying connected online and in person. “There are strict Guinness rules, so I’ll need a strong team for backup. That’s why I’m urging everyone—companies, brands, and individuals—to make this a success.”

Bah’s call echoes to the diaspora too: Share her story, sponsor logistics, or offer resources. “This is something we can all be proud of,” she said. “Your support will make a huge difference. Together, we can make history for The Gambia.” She started with just a dream and determination—” and that’s enough to begin anything in life.”

If successful, Bah’s triumph will ignite a legacy. “If I break this record, it will be a moment of joy for every Gambian,” she beamed. “My happiness will be everyone’s happiness. My history will be our history. In the future, when people mention my name, they’ll say: ‘Aminata Bah, the first woman to set a Guinness World Record in The Gambia.'”
