The United Democratic Party (UDP) has sharply criticized President Adama Barrow’s ongoing “Meet the People” tour, accusing him of prioritizing personal attacks and empty rhetoric over solutions to the nation’s mounting challenges.

In a statement released Thursday by the UDP Media and Communications Team, the opposition party expressed “concern” over the tour’s focus, claiming Barrow has ignored critical issues affecting Gambians, particularly farmers, youth, and families grappling with economic hardship.

“Instead of addressing pressing challenges, the President has chosen personal attacks against opponents and rhetoric that offers no solutions,” the statement read. It highlighted Barrow’s stops across the country, noting an absence of concrete plans for economic relief, healthcare reform, or agricultural support.

The UDP pointed to Barrow’s claim that patients travel from America for treatment in The Gambia as a “false narrative,” amid widespread complaints of an “ailing” health system. No assurances were given on affordable care, decent jobs for youth, or measures to combat livestock diseases, poor harvests, and market access for farmers.

With rising living costs and declining public services straining communities, the party argued Gambians “deserve leadership focused on solutions, not distractions.”

The UDP pledged to continue advocating for accountability, development, and “genuine leadership,” positioning itself as the voice for real change.
