The Gambia Armed Forces (GAF) have appointed Colonel Lamin K. Sanyang as the new Director of Press and Public Relations, effective 26 June 2026. The move brings a highly qualified communication professional with deep military roots into a key role responsible for shaping the public image and civil-military relations of the country’s defense forces.
Colonel Sanyang, described by the GAF as a “seasoned and dynamic communication strategist,” brings more than a decade of dedicated service to the Armed Forces. His appointment is seen as a strategic step to strengthen transparency and public engagement at a time when effective information management remains vital for national security institutions.
Until his new posting, Colonel Sanyang was completing advanced studies abroad. He recently obtained a Master’s Degree in National Defence from the Royal College of Higher Military Education (CREMS) in the Kingdom of Morocco. His academic credentials are impressive and multidisciplinary: he holds a BSc in Automation & Computer-Integrated Systems from Ukraine, an Associate degree in Avionics from the United States, and a Master’s degree in Leadership & Defense Studies from Nigeria.
In addition to his formal education, Sanyang has completed several prestigious professional courses, including Staff Officer training and the Emerging Security Sector Leaders Seminar at the Africa Center for Strategic Studies in Washington, D.C. These qualifications combine technical expertise, leadership development, and strategic communication skills—assets considered ideal for the Press and Public Relations directorate.
He succeeds Major Malick Sanyang, who is currently away on a GAF-approved course in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The appointment underscores the Gambia Armed Forces’ commitment to professional development and placing experienced officers in public-facing roles. Military sources say Colonel Sanyang’s blend of operational experience, international exposure, and proven communication abilities will enhance the GAF’s ability to engage effectively with both domestic and international audiences.
