The Cornerstone Group has extended an official welcome to His Excellency General Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, President of the Republic of Gabon, during his official visit to the Republic of The Gambia.

He is a special guest of President Adama Barrow, who is hosting the Gabonese Leader for a State Visit to The Gambia from 30 July to 2 August 2026, aimed at strengthening longstanding bilateral relations between the two countries.

The visit marks a significant step in the expanding friendship and strategic partnership between the two West African nations. Officials say it underscores a shared commitment to deeper cooperation in investment, infrastructure development, housing, renewable energy, and broader economic transformation.

The timing of the presidential visit is particularly notable for The Cornerstone Group. It follows the recent signing of a landmark US$600 million public-private partnership agreement between Cornerstone Gabon SA and the Government of Gabon. Under the deal, the company will construct 10,000 affordable housing units—one of the largest private-sector housing initiatives in the region.

Alagie Sanyang, Chairman and CEO of The Cornerstone Group, highlighted the importance of the occasion. “We are privileged to welcome His Excellency President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema to The Gambia,” Sanyang said. “His visionary leadership and commitment to the development of Gabon have created new opportunities for collaboration. We are proud to partner with the Government of Gabon in delivering transformative infrastructure that will improve the lives of thousands of families.”

The group also expressed appreciation to His Excellency President Adama Barrow for his role in strengthening bilateral relations. Barrow’s leadership, the company noted, has fostered an environment conducive to investment, regional cooperation, and private-sector partnerships between The Gambia and Gabon.

As President Oligui Nguema’s visit continues, The Cornerstone Group reaffirmed its dedication to delivering sustainable, world-class infrastructure projects. The company emphasized that such initiatives support economic growth, generate employment, and reinforce the bonds of friendship between the peoples of Gabon and The Gambia.

The US$600 million housing project is expected to stand as a flagship example of private-sector involvement in addressing Africa’s housing needs while advancing sustainable development goals across the continent.

The Cornerstone Group wished President Oligui Nguema a successful and memorable stay in The Gambia and expressed optimism for continued fruitful cooperation between the two nations in the years ahead.

The 51-year-old Gabonese leader was inaugurated as the country’s fourth President in May 2025 following Gabon’s first democratic presidential election in decades. His administration has prioritized good governance, economic reform and improved livelihoods.
