The West Coast giants issued a strong statement against fellow title contenders ComAfrique whilst the Mighty Saints proved too good for an inexperienced Bombada side in the latest round of the Gambia Cricket league championship.
The Gambia Cricket Associations domestic cricket season got off to a good start on Saturday May 28th at the MRC Oval in Fajara.
The season commenced with a T20 competition expected to last for eight (8) weeks.
This is the first of five (5) competitions the Association aims to complete before the end of the season in December.
Serial champions Brikama opened their account with a deserved victory over ComAfrique in the first game of the season.
ComAfrique won the toss and opted to fill but Brikama batted and scored 166 runs in 20 overs with 5 wickets in the first inning.
ComAfrique went on to chase a target of 167 In the second inning but only managed 87 runs with 11.1 overs and 9 downed wickets. Brikama won the match by 69 runs.
Saints registered a win in their first outing after a sweet victory over Bombada in the second game of the competition.
Bombada batted in the first inning and scored 48 runs with 8 wickets in 13.1 overs.
The exploits of an inexperienced Bombada side in the first inning gifted Saints an easy target of 49 to chase in the second inning.
The Mighty Saints batted 49 runs in 6.3 with 4 wickets They won the game by 6 wickets.Matches would continue at the MRC Oval in the coming weekends.
