Defense counsel representing fourteen resident of Kerr Mot Hali village has urged a high court judge to unconditionally release his clients that are being held at the Janjanbureh prisons in the Central River Region.

Lawyer Segga Gaye filed an application at the High Court in Banjul before Justice Ebrima Jaiteh to free Omar John, Ali Ceesay, Abdou Mbye, Ali Secka, Ali Ceesay, Musa Mbye, Haddim Ceesay, Mod Talla Secka, Mod Habib Secka, Abdoulie Secka, Mod Habib Secka, Batch Samba, Sheikh Sey and Mustapha Ceesay.

The detainees were arrested following a clash in Kerr Mot Hali village. They were arraigned in a magistrate court in Bansang on allegations of arson and conspiracy to commit felony but they could not react to the accusation as the magistrat ruled that he does not have the jurisdiction to hear the case.

The matter was then transferred to the high court and the suspects were remanded.

Their lawyer told the court that the matter is urgent but lawyer representing the state, Patrick Gomez said he needed some time to advice himself. However, the judge has instructed the detainees to be brought court by the prison authorities.
