The Young Gambian sensation justified why some top European clubs are sniffing around for attention. Adama Bojang delivered a man-of-the-match performance with a brace to inspire The Gambia to a 2-1 win in the FIFA.U-20 World Cup in Argentina.
The 18-year-old prodigy took only 20 seconds to announce his presence on the global stage with a long-range effort for the Gambia’s opening goal. The thunderous strike showed a glimpse of the young striker’s many qualities, earning him the nickname “the hurricane” in the Gambian domestic league for his ability to beat goalkeepers from a distance.
The Young Scorpions dominated in a one-sided affair, despite Honduras leveling the tie through Marco Aceituno’s 5th-minute equalizer. But when it seemed the Central Americans were settling for a precious point, the ‘hurricane’ struck again late in the game. Bojang hit the target in the 84th minute with a close-range finish. The Steve Biko hit-man followed on an initial header that was saved by the Honduras shot-stopper to restore his side’s lead with the decisive goal that secured all three points for the Young Scorpions.
While his first goal was a strike from a distance, the second was a typical striker’s goal. The predatory instinct of the teenage striker was at work in the second goal as he jumped to head the ball on target, which the Honduras goalkeeper did well to stop from going in, but the quick reaction of the agile center-forward to score from the second attempt was staggering.
A classic display from the budding striker showed his all-around abilities in front of goal on two occasions that decided the game.
With a magnificent brace on his first appearance in the tournament, Adama Bojang ‘the Gambian hurricane is on a mission to wreak havoc and deliver glory to the Gambia at the FIFA U20 World Cup, and the world is watching as the next big thing from African football proves his mettle on the global stage.
