Tragedy struck in Brikama late Wednesday evening as a 27-year-old mason identified as Ba Musa Sabally was brutally beaten to death by an angry mob who accused him of being in possession of stolen property.
The incident occurred around 6 p.m. at Brikama Dirimakolong. According to eyewitnesses, a group of youths attacked Sabally, a resident of Brikama Perseverance, severely assaulting him before dumping his body on the roadside. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Sources close to the family revealed that Sabally had received prior warnings from certain individuals threatening his life if he did not change his ways. He was suspected of involvement with stolen items, though formal charges had not been filed against him before the fatal attack.
Tensions escalated further when friends of the deceased attempted to retaliate against those responsible for the killing, raising fears of a larger confrontation in the community. Police officers from Suba Police Station and Police Intervention Unit quickly intervened, restoring calm and preventing additional violence.
One suspect, 18-year-old Ebrima Kandeh from Brikama Bojang Kunda, has been arrested and is currently assisting police with investigations. During questioning, he reportedly named three other individuals allegedly involved in the beating. Authorities are pursuing the remaining suspects.
An eyewitness who spoke to The Alkamba Times said he had seen Sabally alive just hours before the attack. “This is a very sad situation. The boy was moving around normally earlier in the day,” the witness stated.
The body of the deceased has been transported to the mortuary in Banjul for autopsy and further examination.
Police have appealed for calm among residents of Brikama and urged anyone with additional information to come forward. The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, with many condemning the resort to mob justice.
