In a gracious statement following the Half-Die ward by-election, People’s Progressive Party (PPP) candidate Momodou Salieu Jallow congratulated National People’s Party (NPP) candidate Bartholomy Bolo Colley on his victory while reaffirming his commitment to serving the Half-Die community despite the electoral loss.

“I want to begin by acknowledging the results of this election. While they are not the outcome we hoped for, I respect the decision of the voters,” Jallow said in a statement released shortly after the results were announced. “I extend my sincere congratulations to my brother, Mr. Bolo Colley, on the victory. I wish you all the best as you undertake the important work of serving our community, Half-Die Ward.”

The by-election, held at the Banjul KG5 mini stadium to fill the vacancy left by former councilor Momodou Bah, saw voters turn out to choose between Jallow and Colley in a tightly contested race. While Jallow had expressed confidence in changing the “status quo” during the campaign, the NPP’s Colley emerged victorious, bolstered by strong party support and local loyalty to the Barrow-led government.

Jallow took the opportunity to express heartfelt gratitude to his supporters, volunteers, and campaign team, whose “dedication, hard work, and unwavering belief” he described as “truly inspiring.”

He acknowledged their tireless efforts, including “countless hours of phone banking, door knocking, and spreading our message,” which he said had left a lasting impact. “Even though we did not achieve the desired result, the connections we made and the spirit of our campaign will stay with me,” he added.

The PPP candidate also thanked his family and friends for their “unwavering support” throughout the campaign, noting that their encouragement had been invaluable. Despite the defeat, Jallow remained resolute in his commitment to Half-Die, Banjul, and The Gambia. “While this chapter has closed, my commitment to the Half-Die ward remains strong. I will continue to work towards the same goals in any way I can and shall continue to advocate for it,” he pledged.

Reflecting on the broader significance of the campaign, Jallow reiterated his belief in the potential for change, echoing his campaign message: “Every revolution has a beginning.” He expressed optimism about the future, stating, “I believe that together, we can overcome any challenge.”

He called for unity, urging the community to work together.
