Head coach Alagie Sarr is hopeful of a place in Algeria 2022 edition for the first time in the history of Gambian Football as his CHAN team has to negotiate their way against West African neighbors Guinea Bissau on the first stage of the qualifiers.
Coach Sarr described the draw as a fair one for his team.
“We have been waiting for this moment to know our opponent as we have selected a team and started preparation properly. Now that it is clear to us that we have to face Bissau in a double-legged tie, our center of focus will be Bissau for the first qualifiers,” Sarr said.
“The team has been training for some time and we have an opportunity to access the player’s performance during training sessions and a test game against Senegal before the final selection of the team that will face Guinea Bissau in the qualifiers,” he added.
The first leg of the qualifiers is scheduled for the 22nd, 23r, and 24th of July 2022 in Banjul, The Gambia while the return leg will be played in Bissau between 29th, 30th, and 31st of July 2022.
The winner between the two sides will face Mauritania for a place in the 2023 CHAN tournament to be held in Algeria.
