Grand Ruling Alliance Bolsters Unity, Backs Barrow for 2026 Elections in The Gambia

On Sunday, April 20, 2025, President Adama Barrow, Secretary General of the National People’s Party (NPP) and leader of the Grand Ruling Alliance, convened a strategic meeting in Banjul with regional leaders from eight coalition parties to solidify unity and chart a path for the 2026 elections. The high-level gathering, moderated by Hon. Seedy SK Njie, NPP Deputy Spokesman, underscored the alliance’s commitment to national progress and electoral success.

Representatives from the National People’s Party (NPP), Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC), National Reconciliation Party (NRP), Gambia Moral Congress (GMC), Citizens’ Alliance (CA), Gambia Party for Democracy and Progress (GPDP), Alliance for National Re-orientation and Development (ANRD), and National Convention Party (NCP) attended. The Democratic Party (DP) was absent due to its national congress in Brikamaba.

The meeting focused on The Gambia’s political, social, and economic development, with leaders praising Barrow’s transformative agenda. Key achievements highlighted included a nationwide electrification program aiming for universal access by late 2025, significant investments in education, healthcare, and infrastructure, and a 110% civil service salary increase over seven years, enhancing service delivery.

Coalition members lauded Barrow’s commitment to democracy, rule of law, and citizens’ rights. NPP Administrative Secretary Seedy Ceesay emphasized the alliance’s goal to develop a winning 2026 strategy, while Hon. Mai Ahmad Fatty urged partners to rally behind Barrow as the coalition’s presidential candidate. Dr. Demba Sabally, NPP First Deputy National President, called for stronger regional collaboration.

In his closing remarks, President Barrow thanked attendees for their trust and reaffirmed his vision to transform The Gambia into a modern, prosperous nation. He prioritized universal access to clean water, healthcare, education, energy, and infrastructure, renewing his pledge to make The Gambia the first African nation with universal electricity access by 2025/2026. Barrow urged alliance members to maintain unity, conduct joint political events, and foster shared national goals for electoral success.

The meeting marked a pivotal step for the Grand Ruling Alliance as it gears up for the 2026 elections, with Barrow’s leadership at its core.
