The Gambia Football Federation has announced that the Gambia U-16 Girls football team is denied a visa to travel to Luxembourg for the three-nation UEFA invitation tournament.
According to the Federation, this was a result of the current restrictions placed on The Gambia by the European Union.
GFF said UEFA the organizers of the competition has intervened and treated the matter as a special case but the Belgian consulate denied the request as it fall short of the 45 days requirement request process.
The tournament that is initially scheduled to take place in Liechtenstein has been moved to Luxembourg and GFF said UEFA has assured them that they will try to avoid such scenarios for future competitions.
This refusal to grant a visa to the team means the entire Gambian delegation of 26 people will not travel for the tournament set to take place between the 25th and 30th of April 2022.
