After more than 18 months of negotiations, several Gambian opposition groups have agreed to form a new political coalition named CHANGE, short for Coalition for Hope, Accountability, National Renewal, Good Governance, and Equity.
Facilitated by APeX, the talks involved the All People’s Party (APP) Sobeyaa, Gambia For All (GFA), National Unity Party (NUP), Tabax Rewmi Movement and United Democratic Party (UDP). UNITE withdrew from the process; APeX confirmed in a statement released on 9 August 2026.
The participating parties are reviewing a draft coalition agreement, including the process for selecting a flagbearer. Formal adoption is scheduled for Sunday, 16 August 2026. The flagbearer selection is due to begin immediately and conclude by 30 August, with full details to be published later.
APeX praised the stakeholders for their maturity, patriotism and willingness to compromise. “We are stronger together by our numbers,” the organization said.
