It was a weekend to remember for Gambian footballers abroad, with goals flying in across Europe and Asia. From brace heroes and late winners to impressive individual performances, the Scorpions delivered a series of standout displays.

Abdoulie Manneh, Alagie Saine, Baboucarr Faal, Sellou Jallow and Pa Omar Babou were among the headline makers, while two Gambians earned Man-of-the-Match honours and two players registered braces.

England

Portsmouth narrowly lost the South Coast derby against Southampton despite enjoying lengthy spells of possession. Ebou Adams was among four players introduced into the starting XI and went on to play 65 minutes.

Meanwhile, Lamin Sillah scored his second goal for Gillingham in their clash against Rotherham United at the New York Stadium. The Gambian forward found the net in the 60th minute before winning a penalty seven minutes later, which Hale converted for his second goal of the afternoon. The 4-1 victory lifted Gillingham to fourth place in the league standings.

Germany

St Pauli registered their second win of the season with a 2-0 home victory over Karlsruhe. Abdoulie Ceesay broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute, calmly placing his right-footed effort into the bottom-right corner following an assist from Metcalfe.

The goal was Ceesay’s third in five league appearances, underlining his growing influence in front of goal.

Turkey

Ebrima Ceesay made his third appearance for Sivasspor and left a lasting impression. The Gambian came close to making it 2-0 but was denied by the woodwork. Moments later, he provided an assist for Manaj and was also involved in the build-up to his side’s third goal, delivering an influential performance.

Rizespor suffered a home defeat against Fenerbahçe despite Ali Sowe playing the full 90 minutes. It was only the third time Sowe had faced Fenerbahçe without scoring against them.

Ebrima Colley came on late for Konyaspor in their goalless draw against Başakşehir.

Istanbulspor suffered a 1-0 home defeat against Erokspor, with Kanga scoring the decisive goal. Elvin Mendy started for Istanbulspor, while Alieu Cham was introduced in the 56th minute.

Belgium

Abdoulie Manneh marked his first start for Cercle Brugge with a goal and a Man-of-the-Match award, although his side eventually suffered a 2-1 defeat against Anderlecht.

Manneh opened the scoring in the 11th minute and played 56 minutes, appearing poised to be the hero before late goals from Anderlecht turned the contest around.

Despite the defeat, the Gambian forward’s performance was a major positive.

Adama Bojang was an unused substitute for Standard Liège in their encounter against Charleroi, while Salieu Drammeh came on in the 65th minute for the hosts.

Czech Republic

Baboucarr Faal continued his impressive impact off the bench, scoring in Viktoria Plzeň’s latest victory. The Gambian forward has now scored in each of the club’s last two matches, having been introduced around the 65th minute on both occasions.

This time, Faal capitalised on a poor clearance and a scramble inside the box before slotting home to help Plzeň secure their third league victory of the season.

Meanwhile, Ebrima Singhateh played only the first half in what was his second consecutive start for Sparta Prague. His side recorded a convincing victory over Pardubice and climbed to third place after Matchday 10.

Croatia

Abdoulie Sanyang, popularly known as Bamba, delivered a memorable performance in the Zagreb derby, scoring the winning goal against Dinamo Zagreb to give Hajduk Split the bragging rights. In a wet evening of football, Bamba produced a wonderful finish to settle the contest and underline his importance to Hajduk.

Beyond his decisive goal, the Gambian recorded seven accurate passes from nine attempts, created two big chances and completed six of seven attempted dribbles.

Bamba finished the weekend with three goal contributions, scoring twice and providing one assist.

Denmark

OB Odense secured a point away to Nordsjælland after a goalless draw, with James Gomez playing 88 minutes before being replaced by Ulrik Janssen.

AC Horsens, meanwhile, enjoyed a dream start to their Matchday 11 encounter against Silkeborg, scoring twice inside the opening 23 minutes through Alagie Saine and James Bonde.

Saine opened the scoring in the eighth minute, connecting with a cross from the left. However, Danish forward Oliver Ross turned the game around with a hat-trick to put Silkeborg in front.

Horsens refused to surrender and fought back to salvage a point. Once again, Saine was the man to deliver, meeting Jimi’s cross from the left with a first-time finish to the delight of the travelling Gule supporters.

Elsewhere, Sheikh Jaw scored his first league goal of the season for FC København’s U19 side in their 6-1 victory over Viborg FF in the Danish U19 Superliga on Saturday.

Sweden

Suwaibou Kebbeh was introduced as Hammarby looked to add more attacking bodies in search of an equaliser against Djurgården.

However, Joe Hegland’s 45th-minute goal proved decisive, handing Hammarby a painful defeat in the Stockholm derby and dealing a blow to their title ambitions.

Estonia

Muhammed Hydara scored his third goal of the season as JK Tammeka defeated Nõmme United 4-0.

Positioning himself outside the box, Hydara met a well-timed cross and fired into the top-left corner, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance. It was also his second goal in four meetings against Nõmme United.

Meanwhile, Levadia edged Paide 1-0 courtesy of Geovani’s 89th-minute winner. The victory secured the title for Levadia, while Paide remained third with 51 points. Momodou Jobarteh and Dawda Darboe both started for Paide in the encounter.

Latvia

Muhammed Badamoesi continued his remarkable scoring form, netting his third goal in four meetings against Tukums 2000.

Fresh from the international break, the forward needed just three minutes after coming on to make his mark, scoring a header during his 31-minute appearance away from home. It was his 21st goal of the season.

Elsewhere, RFS recovered from a 2-0 deficit to secure a thrilling 4-2 home victory. Modou Saidy featured for 56 minutes as RFS completed their comeback. The victory kept them at the top of the table, with a game in hand.

Sellou Jallow hit double figures for FK Metta following their emphatic 4-0 home victory over Riga Mariners on Saturday.

The Gambian forward came close early on, hitting the post shortly after Ammoh had fired wide. He eventually broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute before striking again just after the restart, finding the net in the 46th minute. The brace took Jallow’s tally to 10 goals for the season.

Philippines

Baboucarr Touray was named Man of the Match after scoring a late winner to give Manila Diggers all three points. The Gambian forward delivered when it mattered most, finding the net with assistance from fellow Gambian Assan Badjie to cap another productive weekend for the Scorpions abroad.

Bangladesh

Pa Omar Babou continued his remarkable run of form, contributing five goals and two assists across his last three matches. On Friday, the Gambian forward scored twice and provided two assists as Fortis secured a victory over Brothers Union.

Babou nearly broke the deadlock himself, but after a misstep disrupted his effort, the rebound was converted by Ibrahim in the 56th minute. Essa Jallow then delivered a low cross from the left, which Hossen converted to make it 2-0.

Babou subsequently took centre stage, scoring Fortis’ third and fourth goals of the evening to complete an outstanding individual performance.

Kenya

Abdoulie Joof came off the bench to assist the opening goal for his side Tusker FC in a 2-0 win over Ulinzi Stars in their first Kenyan Premier League game of the season on Sunday.
