Lawyer Lamin J. Darboe has been agreed upon as the flagbearer of the Team Gambia Grand Coalition 2026 for the presidential election set for 5 December 2026.

Darboe was one of seven aspirants who submitted their interest in leading the coalition. The others were Amadou Kah, Amadou Jaiteh Esq., Basiru Njie, Mariama Khan, Suwaibou Touray, and Professor Dr. Yusupha Dumbuya. Amadou Kah later withdrew from both the Team Gambia Coalition and the race, narrowing the field.

The selection process concluded with consensus around Darboe, a practicing lawyer, as the candidate to represent the grand coalition. Coalition members have formally endorsed him, positioning the alliance for the national vote.

With the election date fixed for 5 December 2026, the coalition is expected to consolidate its platform and campaign under Darboe’s leadership. The decision has drawn congratulatory messages from supporters, including tributes to Counsel Lamin J. Darboe.

The move comes as Team Gambia Grand Coalition 2026 seeks to present a unified front among its constituent groups ahead of the polls. No further details on the internal deliberations have been released, but the agreement clears the way for Darboe to begin formal preparations as the coalition’s standard-bearer.
