Buba Jallow, the man accused of fatally stabbing electrician Ebrima Njie in Latrikunda German, appeared before Justice I. Janneh at the Bundung High Court on Thursday and told the court he was unwell, lacked legal representation, and had been denied proper medical care while in custody.
“I don’t have a lawyer, and the clothes I am wearing were borrowed for me,” Jallow said. He explained he had been unable to secure counsel because of his illness. The suspect further alleged that a doctor had prescribed medication for him, but a prison officer confiscated the prescription. He claimed he was kept indoors without access to fresh air and repeatedly reported feeling sick before eventually being taken to the prison doctor.
State counsel W.K. Drammeh informed the court that the case had been transferred from the Kanifing Magistrates’ Court and was appearing for the first time in the High Court. He requested an adjournment to allow the prosecution time to review the file and file a Bill of Indictment.
Justice Janneh noted that the Magistrates’ Court lacked jurisdiction over a capital offense and that the High Court could not proceed until a formal Bill of Indictment was filed. The court therefore granted the State 30 days to file the indictment and adjourned the matter to 21 October 2026 at 1:00 p.m.
The judge also directed prison authorities to ensure Jallow receives appropriate medical attention. If his condition cannot be managed adequately by prison medical staff, he is to be referred to the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital for further treatment. Jallow faces charges in connection with the alleged killing of Ebrima Njie.
