The Gambia Police Force has appointed Corporal Ebrima B. Jeffang as Executive Member, marking another step in the institution’s renewed commitment to sports development and inclusion.
Jeffang, who hails from Jeshwang, is a respected sports administrator and currently serves as the Second Vice President of the Gambia Handball Association. His appointment comes as the Police Force intensifies efforts to strengthen its sporting programmes and promote wider participation across different disciplines.
Speaking after his appointment, Jeffang described the opportunity as both an honour and a responsibility.
“It is my first time serving on the executive board, and I want to make meaningful changes with the opportunity given to me. I want to revive sporting disciplines that are currently inactive within the Police Force, especially basketball and martial arts. I will build on the existing ideas because this is teamwork,” he said.
He also pledged to champion inclusion by increasing women’s participation in police sports.
“I want us to align with the vision of the Ministry of Youth and Sports. As an institution, the Police Force is for everyone regardless of gender. The Inspector General of Police and Commissioner Ebrima Bah are willing to go the extra mile in sports development and will support inclusion.”
Jeffang has built an impressive résumé in Gambian sports administration. He began his handball journey as a player in 2012 before becoming an executive member of the Gambia Handball Association in 2015. In 2021, he served as Head of Competition and is appointed Head of Delegation by the Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) for the Youth Olympics , further enhancing his reputation as an accomplished administrator.
Expressing his gratitude, Jeffang said sports have shaped both his personal and professional life.
“I am super happy. Everything I have achieved is because of sports, including this appointment. It is an honour to be chosen to represent the Police Force through its sports department. I never expected this appointment, and I couldn’t sleep the night I received the news.”
He reserved special appreciation for the leadership and colleagues who have supported his journey.
“I would like to thank the entire police community, especially DSP Alpha Badjie, Samba Kah, Ansumana Sanyang, and many others. I am excited to work alongside them as we continue to develop sports within the institution.”
