The SuperSonicz Microfinance, on Thursday, February 9, 2023, inaugurated a new financial branch in Wassu village in the northern part of the Central River Region of the Gambia.
Established in 2015, Supersonicz is a purely Gambian-owned enterprise with 15 branches across the country – a microfinance enterprise that provides various banking and financial services, including deposit mobilization, granting loans, and delivery of international money transfer services.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, both the Deputy Governor of CRR, Sainey Mbye, and the Chairman of Kuntaur Area Council, Saihou Jawara, commended and thanked Supersonicz for their foresight in establishing a branch for Wassu village and surroundings.
Mr. Jawara assured the enterprise of his council’s support in their quest to uplift vulnerable women’s challenges in Wassu and neighboring villages.
“We have no bank in CRR North, so we will still appeal to SuperSonicz to extend its intervention arms to other growth centers within the area,” Chairman appealed.
The Chief Executive Officer of SuperSonicz, Alhagie Njundu Fatty, said their mission is to facilitate financial inclusion and stimulate sustainable economic development of communities using Sharia-compliant micro-finance.
“We believe that one of the major factors hindering entrepreneurial development in the Gambia is lack of capital – making financial service inclusive, easily accessible and affordable will enhance capital formation and as a result of this eliminate poverty and promote entrepreneurial development,” CEO Fatty said.
Giving testimony at the event, customers’ representative Fatou Janka acknowledged the life-changing opportunities SuperSonicz has brought to her and other women in the area.
“We have received a lot of benefits from them. One of them is the purchase of rental chairs for our organization. SuperSonicz is here for underprivileged families and women, especially widows,” Fatou testified.
“I got financial support from Supersonics which I used to do animal husbandry, and today, I am receiving a huge profit from that business,” she added.
The newly inaugurated branch is not only expected to support residents in terms of financial provision to the needy but also serve as a boost to the socio-economic development of the area, which mainly involves agriculture and trade as Wassu is known for its hub for business.
