One year after his passing, the late Pa Modou Faal will be remembered at a football final organized in his loving memory today, 4th March 2023, in the North Bank Region settlement of Kerr Mama.
The Late Pa Modou Faal Memorial Football Tournament, which featured sixteen villages in Upper Niumi District, is organized in memory of the former journalist who died in a fatal car crash in 2022.
The former Daily Observer and The Point newspaper reporter is remembered by the people of Kerr Mama, one of many communities he had profiled in his work.
Saddened by his untimely demise, a top Gambian MLS referee and a native of Kerr Mama village Babucarr Jallow decided to sponsor the district football tournament. Jallow, who made headlines last year by officiating in the El-Classico friendly between Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona, said Pa Modou’s exemplary life and legacy are worth celebrating.

There was a recitation of the Holy Quaran by scholars of the religious community to seek Allah’s infinite mercy and blessings on Pa Modou’s and other departed souls.
“We not only remember him through the football match, but we will be offering prayers to seek God’s mercy on his soul as that is the most important thing we can do for him,” Babucarr Jallow, the financier of the memorial tournament, explained.

The Quranic recitation will follow the football final between Masosseh FC of Kerr Mama and the Indomitable Lions of Sami Koto village at the late Badou Jasseh Football Field in Kerr Mama village.
Family members, former friends, and colleagues of the late journalist are expected to grace the inaugural edition of the Pa Madou Faal Memorial Football tournament to remember the fallen journalist who is hailed for his remarkable work in promoting mainly sports, health, and social issues through his journalistic work before his demise.
Today’s final will see Masosseh Fc of Kerr Mama lock horns with the Indomitable lions of Sami Koto.
