The Gambia national team coach Tom Saintfiet has revealed that in form, Boavista Football Club forward Yusupha Njie has made it into the final list of his 25-man squad for the first time since the TotalEnergies Africa Cup Of Nations tournament in Cameroon.
The son of the late Gambian Great Footballer Alhaji Momodou “Biri Biri” Njie, Yusupha Njie, 28, is in the form of his life. Njie has found the net ten times for Boavista in the Portuguese top-tier league.
The Gambia’s coach acknowledged to The Alkamba Times Sports that Yusupha Njie had made the cut in his final squad, which will be released soon.
“He (Yusupha) is in the final selection. I will not go further in details yet; we announce the squad later this week, so you know already more than any other Journalist.” Tom Sainfiet confirmed.
However, Ali Sowe, 28, another Gambia striker on scintillating form, is likely to miss out on a place as of the case many times despite the cries from some quota of the scorpion’s fans.
Despite scoring seven goals in 21 matches, Ali Sowe is poised to miss out on a place in the Tom Saintfiet squad to face Mali in a double-legged tie in the TotalEnergies Africa Cup Of Nations qualifier.
Tom Saintfiet revealed to The Alkamba Times Sports that he could not select four central in his squad.
With the Position of the untouchable Assan Ceesay and Musa Barrow almost guaranteed to judge by the previous Belgian selection and Yusupha Njie’s resurrection, it will be a surprise if Ali Sowe makes it into the final squad.
“We will see in a few days, but we can’t select only strikers. Yusupha scored 10, Badamosi 9, Ali 6, Assan 4; 4 central strikers for one spot is too much; we have many other offensive players with Musa, Modou Barrow, Ebrima Colley, Abdoulie Sanyang, Alieu Fadera, and Ablie Jallow so let’s see.” Tom said.
