A book authored by United States-based Gambian writer Momodou Ndow has won a BookFest Award in the United States of America.
“The Mischievous Mosquitoes of Banjul,” which personified one of the key features of the Gambia’s Island Capital City, was named the 3rd best publication at the 2023 Bookfest award.
The book competed in a category of more than 400 children’s books from across the world and deservedly made the cut in the final three.
“When my publisher informed me that they would submit my book to The BookFest Awards, I had no idea what it was all about. That was the first time I heard about it. I wrote this story ten years ago, and to see it go from a mere article to an award-winning book is surreal. I am truly humbled,” Ndow told TAT.
“A big thank you to my publisher, Fyen Network, for their incredible work bringing the story to life. I would also like to thank those who have supported or encouraged me somehow,” he added delightedly.
The BookFest Awards honors authors who create outstanding works of fiction and nonfiction, and Books are judged in categories based on genre, theme, and aesthetics.
An initial team vets entries and an elite team of experts in the literary and entertainment world determines final places. According to their score, awards are assigned based on first, second, third, and honorable mention.
The Mischievous Mosquitoes of Banjul was authored by Momodou Ndow and his niece, Saffie Jagne, in 2022 and is available online through the Fyen Network and other platforms such as Amazon, Barnes, and Nobles.
The Mosquitoes of Banjul is the first of the five books written by Momodou Ndow under his brand “MoBooks.’
