Insurance broker, PCAM, has donated a set of football Jerseys to a local community football team, LC Rising Stars, in Wellingara in the West Coast Region.
The non-league team is greatly admired for its off-the-field activities, and the donation came after the team wowed many Gambians when their inspirational story was posted on Facebook about the team’s regular cleansing exercise in the community.
Gambian sports broadcaster Momodou S Jallow of The Gambia Radio and Television Services wrote on Facebook about how team members would go around the streets to pick up the rubbish in the neighborhood.
“When I shared the inspiring story of LC Rising Stars, little did I know there would be such a massive response,” The GRTS Sports Editor said.
Impressed by the team’s community work, PCAM Insurance Brokers reached out to donate a brand new set of jerseys through its chairman Mr. Abdoulie Jallow; the reputable insurance company presented the jerseys to team officials at its head office at the Bayba building in Westfield.
Mr. Jallow said he was impressed with the team’s community work which inspired him to extend the support.
“When I read about the team’s community work, I considered supporting them with this set of jerseys. It’s not about your talents but what you are doing off the pitch for your community, and I urge you to continue that.” The former GNOC Secretary-General said.
“As a company, we also have a corporate social responsibility to contribute our quota in the country’s development,” Jallow explains.
Rising Stars head coach Dawda Fofana and Team manager Yankuba Fatajo described it as a timely intervention when the team requires jerseys.
Newly promoted GFF 1st Division side BST Galaxy owned by Gambian International Bubacarr Steve Trawally, also donated four match balls to the Wellingara-based team.
LC Rising Stars is competing in the ongoing Serrekunda East nawettan football qualifiers.
