The Alkamba Times sports brings Habib Faal, Muhammed Kebbeh (Space TV) & Malick Joof (Fish) to give analysis on run down to the title ahead of the season.
Real De Banjul are poised to defend their title this campaign. Many are having the thoughts that Fortune will put up a stiff competition for the City boys. There are few managerial changes with Ebrima Gibba set to lead Real de Banjul while Sarjo will lead Falcons in the Lamin Sanneh era. BST Galaxy & TMT are the new boys but they can learn few from Rhino whom since their promotion, haven’t yet been relegated.
Kebbeh who used to award player of the month as well as the leading goal scorers says the title is Real de Banjul’s to lose and his surprise package team is TMT.
“My favourite is Real de Banjul, they are the defending champions. They have lost two or three players that you know were fundamental with them last season. Alieu Gibba, Salifu Colley and Momodou Bojang. They have made some adjustments. For the 2nd position, I will go with Fortune FC. They are solid but they don’t have a goalscorer who will score goals. They don’t have anybody like Alieu Barry, they have strikers but not as deadly as Alieu Barry. When I saw Alieu Barry last season, I said Fortune would compete because he gives you 10+ goals and he ended up scoring 15 goals last season. Wallidan is always the favourite but once the tournament enters the critical stages, they loosen up. They have lost some key players too, and their new adjustment will help them.”
Habib Faal, a Gambian football analyst says BST, can beat any team in the league on any given day.

“Fortune FC will be a contender because of the players I saw around, and the experience within them. Real de Banjul has a side but they have lots of youngsters, who are not very matured yet. The core of the team is there in terms of the midfield and defence but the upper part of the field, they are lots of young players. I don’t know how things will going to pan out.” He emphasized
Will goals be a problem? Pa Barrow of Afri Radio doesn’t think so.
“When you follow the nawettan and the test games we have some young potential strikers that are coming in. At the start of the season, it will be a struggle but along the way, we will have goals in the league, defenders and midfielders have also left it’s a vice versa thing.”
Fish bookmarks Real for back-to-back title.
“Looking at the structures of Real de Banjul, their coach and technical team and the players, every year you expect them to win the league because it’s a huge team in the Gambia. It’s never been a pressure to win the league by force. Where they came from last season and snatched the league from Falcons and their structure as well as the investment they made in players speaks volumes. In terms of signings, they stand a better chance than anyone. “
A coach can leave but the concept of a team is always there. Because with Falcons, since they built it, it is the same thing. when Giggs left Armed Forces and came to Real de Banjul, all thought he would be a head coach, but the Estonian came. For Ebrima Gibba now it’s just continuity, If you look at Real de Banjul project, every player is motivated, they export players, and have good training facilities. All these leads players to deliver. Real has depth compared to other teams.”
