The Alkamba Times brings you the weekend roundup ahead of Gambia’s double header against Burundi and Ivory Coast in Tanzania.

Tom Saintfiet named Omar Colley and Noah Sonko for the World Cup qualifiers, despite the duo not participating in their European match in the midweek. The captain was on the bench against Basaksehir Fk over the weekend.

France

Metz registered their third win and their first three points at the Stade Saint Symphorien this season. Sunday’s 3-1 win against Nantes saw Ablie Jallow’s providing his first assist of the season. Ablie set up Simon in the 28th minute to restore the host lead and went on to play 84 minutes.

GF38 returned to winning ways following their back-to-back defeats. GF38 secured an away win at Amiens. Abdoulie Sanyang was introduced in the 68th minute.

Germany

Bakary Jatta assisted Glatzel for the equalizer, but the host scored two more goals in the 83rd and 88th minute to hand HSV their third defeat of the season.

Switzerland

Ebrima Colley got his first goal for Young Boyz as they thumped Luzern 6-1. Colley who played full throttle assisted Elia for his second goal and went on to score the host’s fifth.

Denmark

Vejle edged Lyngby 1-0. It was their third win of the season. Hamza Barry played full throttle while Musa Juwara came on in the 79th minute.

AC Horsens settled for a 1-1 draw against FC Fredericia on Friday with Gambian U20 captain Alagie Saine handed a start.  

Sweden

Bubacarr Trawally featured in Hammarby 2-2 against Halmstad, the Gambian lasted for 60 minutes. Hammarby finished seventh position with 44 points.

Estonia

Paide lost the bronze match and missed out European spot for the first time in three years. Bubacarr Tambedou opened the deadlock with his seventh goal of the season. The host pulled back twice to let Tallinn Kalev snatch the third position.

In the Esiliiga, Nõmme United were crowned champions. Babou Cham who is on loan from Paide scored 7 goals in 21 matches. This is the third trophy for the 24 year-old attacking midfielder.

Morocco

JS Soualem were held to a goalless draw by Raja Athletic. Pa Modou Sohna retained his place in the starting XI.

Egypt

Alieu Jatta returned from suspension to play for El Gouna in their 1-1 draw against Egyptian giants Al Ahly. Jatta played as a defensive midfielder.

Senegal

Pa Ebou Dampha got his first start of the season while Fakebba Jammeh retained his position in CasaSport’s 1-0 defeat against Dakar Sacred Coeur.

I started my journalism career as a football analyst in 2012 with Vibes FM and went on to work with CityLimit, West Coast, Hot FM, Freedom Radio, Eye Africa and Afri Radio as a content producer and presenter. In 2013, I attended Football Daily on the BBC SPORTS where we discussed the different styles of Football played in Africa. I finished in the top 35 in the world with my article titled Back way: Gambian footballers in deadly Voyage to Europe.   With over 500 articles and interviews, analysis, profiling, features and news, I was shortlisted for the Gambia Press Union National Journalist Award 2022. I submitted the article which was co-written alongside Momodou Bah From Living Through Despair to Being An Agent Of Hope, The Inspiring Story Of John Bass.   I have served as an advisers to Football academies, clubs, and players and others. I have hosted dozens of shows and was invited as a guest on both radio, TV and the online press. I also covered the Gambia's maiden AFCON debut in 2021 in Cameroon.
