As Gambians prepare to gather for Eid-ul-Fitr festivities and contemplate their fasting period, President Adama Barrow stresses the significance of harmony and progress in his pre-Eid address to the nation.
“In various ways, Ramadan comes with spiritual and moral lessons for our general well-being. It is a period that reminds us of our duty to support the less privileged while legally enjoying the bounties bestowed upon us.”
The spirit of Eid-ul-Fitr is intertwined with reflections on global conflicts and the pursuit of peace. President Barrow’s words struck a chord as he addressed ongoing wars and conflicts, underscoring the necessity of preserving peace and stability in the face of adversity.
“As we prepare to feast tomorrow, we must not forget that there are many ongoing conflicts and wars in various parts of the world, leading to widespread loss of life and huge destruction of infrastructure and property.” — President Adama Barrow.
Amidst the challenges, President Barrow highlighted the importance of democracy and regional stability, commending Senegal for its peaceful Presidential election and power transfer. The successful National Dialogue in The Gambia set a precedent for consensus-building and fostering peace within the region.
“I congratulate the new President, Government, and People of Senegal on their peaceful Presidential election and power transfer.”
As citizens gathered to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr, President Barrow’s message resonated as a call to action, emphasizing the collective responsibility towards national development. The commitment to maintaining infrastructure, providing essential amenities, and fostering economic resilience echoed throughout the festivities.
“To achieve the Government’s commitment to the national development agenda, we must maintain good road networks and easy access to electricity, clean water, and other amenities.”
In the spirit of unity and progress, Gambians looked towards the future, anticipating The Gambia’s hosting of the Organisation of the Islamic Cooperation Summit. President Barrow’s call to showcase the nation’s hospitality and potential underscored the importance of international engagement and cooperation.
“I believe everyone here now knows that The Gambia will host the 15th edition of the Organisation of the Islamic Cooperation Summit next month, May 2024. We shall welcome the Muslim Ummah to the Smiling Coast of Africa by God’s grace.”
