The Serekunda East Sports Development Organisation (SESDO) celebrated its award night 2.0 at its ground on Saturday, May 4.

Members of the organisation, partners, and sporting dignitaries grace the occasion in grand style. The all-affair east side gathered musicians around the vicinity to entertain the public.

After the awards night, Modou Cham, the current president of SESDO, accessed the elegant night and drew on the positive sides in an exclusive interview with the Alkamba Times.

“It was excellent, well organised, and people came to answer our call. I think we could not even sustain it. People appreciated it. We couldn’t meet all our teams; I had to apologize to other teams. Serekunda East has almost 40 teams; our target was 350 people, and we extended it to 500, but still, we couldn’t control it. This is Serekunda East for you; everyone wants to come on board.” Cham stressed

“The activity is sustainable; you will get whatever you invest in it, or even more than that. I think it’s good to award the children and tell them they had a good nawettan because, at the end, the competitiveness and disciplinary factors will come. If you look at us, we didn’t limit ourselves to only football; without it, we included basketball and volleyball, and next year we want to include handball and marital arts. The President, Modou Yusupha Cham, calls for other zones to emulate Serekunda East.”

The president continued to say that the teams have really held on to the executives and the programme. He mentioned that the  awards night had opened doors and gates for the business fraternity to partner with the Serekunda East Sports Organisation.

“There is hope and confidence; even businessmen now want to come on board and partner with lots of activities, one of which is to play nawettan at night.”

Cham, who has one year left, said time wouldn’t allow him to deliver his dream for the Serekunda East mini stadium.

“Hadn’t we started the activity in our first year, we would have changed Serekunda East. I want to leave a pavilion and start another one, but time will not allow me. However, I will leave with a very good pitch; my wish was artificial turf with more improved structures. We will leave behind good competitions and activities like the U10, U13, and U15 tournaments, the women’s nawettan, and the awards night. Football is back in Serekunda East. I think that’s the biggest thing.”

Alagie Kujabi, alias “Andy P”, one of the founding fathers of Macasa FC, was honored and recognized for his efforts in the organisation. Andy P. currently serves as a technical adviser.

“It was amazing. It’s the first of its kind since the inception of the Serekunda East Sports Committee. The committee is really working, and it should be a yardstick for other administrations to learn from them. They are young and hungry for success. They know the modus operandi of football. They took us the extra mile. They are just dynamic. They are the best committee that we have ever had. I am grateful for the recognition, ” he noted.
