The Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC) has strongly refuted the allegations published by Atlantic Magazine regarding an interview with former Gambian President Yahya Jammeh. The APRC demands a prompt withdrawal of the article and has released a statement dismissing the allegations as untrue and deceptive.
The APRC spokesperson, Yankuba Jammeh, stated, “Former President Jammeh has not communicated with any media outlet or individual journalist since he departed from The Gambia in January 2017.” This declaration was made following claims by Senegalese journalist Pape Saine of Atlantic Magazine, who allegedly interviewed Jammeh.
The APRC’s media team under Babili Mansa has categorically refuted the recent viral video circulating on social media, allegedly published by the Senegalese newspaper. “These claims are fake, false, and misleading,” Yankuba Jammeh emphasized.
Hon. Yaya Tamba, the interim party leader of the APRC, supported this refutation, confirming that “the Supreme leader has not granted an interview to any journalist or media establishment since he left the soil of The Gambia.” He, along with the National Executive Committee (NEC) and the entire party, has challenged Pape Saine to retract his claims and cease further publication.
The APRC has made it clear that the news is considered to be “false and baseless, with clear indications of manipulation aimed at garnering increased attention from the Senegambian audience or readership.” Yankuba Jammeh reiterated, “Ex-President Jammeh has not spoken to any head of state since he left The Gambia and did not grant any interviews to anyone.”
The APRC says the Atlantic Magazine article underscores the party’s demand for accurate and truthful reporting concerning their leadership.
