The Gambian police force has confirmed the initiation of an investigation into a shooting incident at Welligara Primary School in the West Coast region, which involved a second-grade student.
The shooting has caused nationwide shock and is thought to be an unprecedented incident in Gambian schools, with numerous individuals, including Basic and secondary education officials, confirming the event.
The Gambia Police Force released a statement on Monday confirming they are investigating the incident.
“The police are currently investigating a shooting incident at Wellingara Lower Basic School, which was reported by the vice principal of the school. The police quickly responded to the scene, recovered the weapon, and secured it.”
