Bottrop Technical Upper and Senior Secondary School hosted a vibrant graduation ceremony on Saturday, honoring its graduating students on its grounds. The colorful event drew a diverse crowd, including parents, alums, parliamentarians, and distinguished dignitaries, all gathered to celebrate the achievements of the Class of 2025.
Principal Jalimori Jobarteh opened the ceremony with a heartfelt address, describing the occasion as a “celebration of success,” highlighting the students’ milestones, resilience, and boundless potential. Reflecting on the academic year, he praised the graduates for their hard work and perseverance, which shone through in academic, moral, creative, and extracurricular pursuits. “Each achievement reflects our school’s enduring pursuit of excellence and our shared belief that every student can shine,” Jobarteh said.
He emphasized the school’s mission to nurture well-rounded individuals: “Our goal has always been to awaken the potential within every learner, guiding them to become not only scholars but compassionate, responsible citizens.” Jobarteh underscored that the graduates’ diverse accomplishments, from academic excellence to vibrant co-curricular activities, embodied this mission.
The guest speaker, Musa Ceesay, delivered an inspiring address, framing the ceremony as a celebration of academic success and the hope the graduates represent for The Gambia’s future. He acknowledged the complex, dynamic world awaiting them, marked by global economic uncertainty, climate change, political upheaval, and rapid technological advancements. “The world you are entering does not owe you comfort. It demands your resilience, creativity, and courage,” Ceesay declared, urging the graduates to face these challenges with determination.
Ceesay encouraged the students to become job creators, innovators, and problem-solvers in technology, health, entrepreneurship, agriculture, or the arts. “There are no secrets to success,” he said. “It results from preparation, hard work, and learning from failure.” His words resonated with the audience, underscoring the urgency and discipline needed to thrive in a competitive global landscape.
Madam Isatou Ndow, the outgoing board chairperson, echoed Ceesay’s sentiments, offering the graduates practical advice for navigating their future paths. She commended their resilience and encouraged them to carry forward the values instilled at Bottrop.
The ceremony also recognized outstanding teachers and students, presenting them with certificates for their dedication and hard work. The event was a testament to the school’s commitment to fostering excellence and preparing students for the challenges and opportunities ahead.
