Ngundu Fatty, the dynamic CEO of Salam Financial Services (formerly Supersonic Microfinance), has declared his candidacy for the presidency of the Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) in the upcoming election on September 5, 2025. The announcement was made over the weekend at his office, signaling his ambition to lead the influential business organization for the next three years.

Fatty, a seasoned entrepreneur with over 25 years of experience in technology, finance, banking, and corporate strategy, expressed confidence in his ability to steer the GCCI toward a brighter future. He praised the outgoing president, Edi Mass Jobe, for his “unprecedented achievements” and “quality leadership,” which have significantly advanced the Chamber’s objectives. “2025 is a pivotal year for the GCCI to democratically elect leaders who will champion the Gambian private sector,” Fatty stated, emphasizing the importance of the upcoming election.

Having previously served as the GCCI’s treasurer, Fatty highlighted his deep involvement in advocating for the private sector’s interests. “Today, I feel confident to contest for the presidency of GCCI and lead the Chamber to a better future—not just for my personal gain, but for the greater good of the Gambian private sector,” he declared. His tenure as treasurer, he noted, equipped him with the insights and experience needed to elevate the organization.

Fatty unveiled his manifesto, titled ‘Hexapro,’ which outlines six ambitious goals for his presidency. These include promoting inclusivity and diversity in business participation across gender, age, and regions; enhancing the value proposition for members; strengthening advocacy and stakeholder engagement; ensuring the financial sustainability of the Chamber; fostering cross-border and regional trade; and improving employer representation. “My vision is to build a more inclusive and robust private sector that drives economic growth,” he said.

Appealing to the GCCI’s general membership, Fatty urged them to support his candidacy based on his proven track record. “I am deeply invested in the Gambian private sector,” he emphasized, pointing to his entrepreneurial achievements. Fatty co-founded Lasting Solution Ltd., which employs 35 people, and Salam Financial Services Ltd., with a workforce of over 180, demonstrating his commitment to job creation and economic development.

Fatty’s extensive experience in both public and private sectors positions him as a formidable candidate. His leadership at Salam Financial Services has been marked by innovation and growth, earning him respect within Gambia’s business community. As the GCCI election approaches, Fatty’s candidacy is expected to spark lively discussions among members about the future direction of the Chamber.

The GCCI, a key advocate for Gambia’s private sector, plays a critical role in shaping the country’s economic policies and fostering business growth. Fatty’s announcement sets the stage for a competitive election that will determine the Chamber’s leadership for the next three years.

As the September 5 election draws near, all eyes will be on Fatty and his vision to transform the GCCI into a more inclusive and dynamic force for Gambia’s business community.
