On Thursday, September 25, 2025, Mamour M. Mbenga, known as Kifa Barham, a Gambian journalist, graduated with a Professional Certificate in Sports Management and Administration from the National Sports College in Winneba, Ghana. The renowned Gambian journalist, drug abuse advocate, and sports entrepreneur was among 85 participants celebrated for completing the prestigious program. This marks another milestone in his illustrious career dedicated to youth empowerment and sports development.

Kifa, a household name in The Gambia and across the region, has built an impressive professional training portfolio in sports and fitness. In 2022, he earned a Diploma-Certificate in Football Business Management and HR from Valley View University in partnership with Linked Sports Business College in Ghana. The following year, he furthered his expertise with a Sports Governance and Leadership course at the National Sports College. Kifa is also awaiting global certification as a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) and Certified Nutrition Coach (CNC) through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) in the USA, in collaboration with the Institute of Fitness Ghana (IFG).

Beyond his academic achievements, Kifa has earned national recognition for his tireless efforts in combating illicit drug use and crime in The Gambia. His campaigns addressing the “back-way” syndrome—a term referring to irregular migration—have resonated with communities, establishing him as a transformative figure for Gambian youth. In 2023, during the commemoration of World Drug Day, Kifa was named the official Brand Ambassador for the Drug Law Enforcement Agency (DLEAG) in The Gambia, a testament to his impact.

Kifa’s commitment to youth development extends to founding several regional organizations to curb drug abuse and crime. Leveraging his influence, he has championed health awareness in sports and initiated scholarship programs for individuals struggling with addiction and school dropouts. His multifaceted approach combines sports, education, and advocacy to uplift communities and steer young people toward positive paths.

Speaking to the media about his latest achievement, Kifa expressed gratitude to DLEAG and his partners for their unwavering support. “It’s a milestone achievement to gain valuable insights and experience in the sports education sector,” he said. “I believe this is the beginning of a great opportunity to support the youth in various fields, especially in sports education, health, and wellness.”

Kifa emphasized the devastating impact of drug abuse on professional athletes and young talents, noting that it has derailed many promising careers. He vowed to use his newfound knowledge and experience to contribute to national development. He called on stakeholders in the sports industry to raise awareness about the dangers of illicit drugs. “My energy and expertise will be a huge asset in addressing these challenges,” he added.

As Kifa Barham continues to inspire and lead, his latest accomplishment in Ghana reinforces his role as a beacon of change, blending sports, education, and advocacy to empower the next generation of African youth.
