Queen Scorpions celebrating their defeat against Sierra Leone

The Gambia national female team (Queen Scorpions) made a bright start to the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with a powerful 2 – 0 win over Sierra Leone in Freetown.

The Queen Scorpions who were well-composed throughout took the lead after the break through the quick footed forward Ola Buwaro.

The hosts who were understandably stretched under pressure started chasing for a leveller but The Gambia hit on a counter-attack to add to their lead as Ruggy Joof made it 2 – 0 on the 77th minute.

The Sierra Queens tried to get back in the game, but the Queen Scorpions firmly protected the two goal advantage ahead of the return leg in Banjul.

The head coach of the Queen Scorpions  Mariama Bom Sow said she saw this coming.

“This is something that I was expecting. Am very happy especially for Gambian people back home, we are coming back and we’re going to collect our second three-points in The Gambia”, coach Sowe said.

The two nations will clash in the return leg on the 25th of October 2021 in Banjul.
