Darboe files Nomination Papers As thousands emerge to cheer-up UDP Leader

The leader of the biggest opposition party in the Gambia, Lawyer Ousanou Darboe has filed his nomination papers with the Independent Electoral commission early Monday in Kanifing.

Accompanied to the Electoral house by thousands of UDP party supporters, Darboe successfully submitted his nomination portfolio, a major part of requirements to contest for elections in the Gambia. 

Mr. Darboe, 73 will contest against President Barrow in the crucial December polls, the first elections in the post Jammeh Gambia.

IEC Boss, Alieu Momar Njie told Darboe while submitting his credentials that his documents will be further scrutinized before being cleared to contest elections.

Speaking to  waiting Journalists, the UDP Leader said he is optimistic of victory adding that the 2021 elections will redefine the future of the Gambia.

Mr Darboe who said he is qualified to run for the office of the President challenged his colleagues in the presidential race  including President Adama Barrow to declare their assets as he darboe has done.

Submitting his credentials, Darboe told the IEC that he is nominated by three parties.

Meanwhile Bakary Bunja Darboe Leader of  Gambia for All Party has notified the IEC that he is not contesting and has withdrawn his candidacy.

Many believe that BB Darboe will be backing the UDP in the upcoming presidential election.

After his arrest and imprisonment by the previous regime of President Yahya Jammeh in 2014, he relocated to Dakar, Senegal, where he continues to work as a freelance journalist for various local and international media organizations, including the BBC, Al Jazeera, VOA, and ZDF TV in Germany. He is also a co-founder of the Banjul-based Media Center for Research and Development, an institution dedicated to research and development initiatives. As a journalist and communication expert dedicated to supporting the Gambia's transitional process, Mr. Sainey M.K. Marenah plays a significant role in developing a media and communications platform aimed at enhancing civic participation and raising awareness of the requirements for transitional governance. His efforts contribute to the country's ongoing movement toward democratization. In addition to his work in Gambia, Mr. Marenah has traveled extensively across Europe, Africa, and the United States as a professional journalist and has participated in various local and international media training programs.
