The NPP party leader, President Adama Barrow, and GDC’s presidential candidate, Mama Kandeh, are both natives of Jimara District in the Upper River Region; being from the villages of Mankamang Kunda and Sare Birong respectively.

Mama Salieu Jallow, a youth leader, says Jimara during the last presidential, parliamentary and local government elections witnessed the creation of division in the rural district.

He said the two politicians are long time political opponents, even before they both contested in the last presidential election in 2016.

It would be recalled that both Barrow and Kandeh participated in the election, when Barrow emerged with the most votes and replaced Yahya Jammeh as president. Kandeh came third in the historic election.

Jallow is calling on Barrow and Mama Kandeh, again both candidates in the Dec 4, 2021 presidential election, to work to unite the people of their district.

He said the “politics of unhealthy exchanges of words will never do any good to the constituency, and will only incite division and enmity among us in Jimara, and we should not allow that to happen.

‘’I believe the politicians, particularly our own sons of Jimara, President Barrow and Hon. Mama Kandeh, are aware of the level of political differences in existence here. Therefore, I call on both leaders to encourage political tolerance, so as to unite the people of their district during this crucial period.’’

Mama Salieu, who also holds a position in the executive of the regional URR Youth Committee, is urging all the six presidential candidates to conduct peaceful campaigns.
