Police have arrested a 35-year-old Nigerian man in connection with the murder of his 41-year-old girlfriend, whose body was discovered in a bush between Kitty and Siffoe villages in the West Coast Region.
Audu Williams was taken into custody following the discovery of Esther Tango’s body on July 7, 2026. The victim was initially known only as “Jessica” until detectives from the Suba Ward CID Unit, working with the Crime Scene Investigation Team, confirmed her identity through her recovered Nigerian passport at her Brikama residence.
Investigators said witness statements, crime scene analysis, and telecommunications records quickly identified Williams as the prime suspect. He was invited for questioning and allegedly confessed to the crime during interrogation. Preliminary findings suggest he lured Tango to Kitty on the night of July 6, where the fatal incident occurred, before abandoning her body in the bush.
Williams has been cautioned and remains in police custody. He is expected to be formally charged and prosecuted under Gambian law once investigations are complete.
The Gambia Police Force praised the “professionalism, diligence, and commitment” of the officers involved, noting the swift breakthrough in the case. Investigations are continuing.
