Beatrice Allen has been elected as the new President of The Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC) at a congress held at the Gambia’s Olympic hall on Saturday November 27th.
Madam Allen defeated opponent Lamin King Colley in the race for the presidency after securing 25 votes. Her opponent King Colley secured only 17 votes.
Nine Olympic sporting organisations and seven non-Olympic sports voted for the new GNOC president while five Olympic sports and seven non-Olympic sporting organisations voted for the loser.
Lamin Kaba Bajo was elected Madam Allen’s first vice president with 27 votes. The Gambia Football Federation president beat opponent Bai Dodou Jallow in the race.
Former GNOC Treasurer Ousman Wadda was elected second GNOC vice president with 26 votes while his competitor Johnny Gomez secured 16 votes.
Yorro Njie was elected Secretary General of the GNOC after securing 24 votes while the loser Peter Prom got 18 votes.
Muhammad Jagana was elected Treasurer with 23 votes and his competitor Abdoulie M.A. Jallow amassed 19 votes.
Six individuals in Sering Modou Faye, Timothy Colley, Ba Kebba Suso, Pa Assan Sylva, Momodou Suwareh and Ebrima Jawara contested for three board members seats.
Pa Assan Sylva, Ba Kebba Suso and Timothy Colley were all elected with 26, 24 and 23 votes respectively.
David Hafner, Adama Jammeh and Gina Bass were co-opted to serve in the executive.
In her acceptance statement, the New elected president said her executive will work hard to deliver on their manifesto and called on all to work together in the interest of Gambian athletes. She also expressed their willingness to reform GNOC.
