The leader of the United Democratic Party Lawyer Ousainou Darboe addressed tens of thousands of his party supporters in Brikama via live broadcast from his Pipeline residence.
Darboe, the main challenger to incumbent President Adama Barrow aborted his campaign trail on Monday and returned to Banjul after ‘tripping’.
“Well I tripped and we tried to get treatment at the Mansakonko Health Centre but there are no X-Ray facilities available there. So we had to debate whether to go to Bansang or come to Banjul and it was decided that even though the facilities may be available in Bansang, they may not be sufficient and the doctor advised that I should come to an area where I will have proper attention and that is why I am here. If there was an X-Ray machine in Mansakonko then there would be no need for me to come to Banjul,” Darboe told local media after rumors about his health spread like wildfire.
Speaking to his supporters virtually, UDP Leader expressed delight at the huge turn out saying that UDP was established in the heart of Brikama in September 1996 and today’s rally demonstrates the love people of Brikama still have for UDP.
“Sitting at home and watching the Rally in Brikama gives me inestimable pleasure knowing that the foundations upon which the party was built are rock solid. You have shown resilience despite the obstacles thrown at you. You have demonstrated such a deep sense of nationalism throughout the life of this party and most especially in this final leg of the 2021 campaign,” Darboe said, adding:
“I admire the camaraderie, smiles on your faces, and good humor. I can continue to hold my head high as you demonstrate leadership in the examples you set. You continue to demonstrate for all to see your desire for a better nation. Tonight once again, as in other regions of the country you have sent a clear message that The Gambia is ready for meaningful change that will usher in sustainable development.”
The UDP Leader who sounds optimistic ahead of Saturday’s elections urged his supporters to continue canvassing for votes, and ‘sell our 5-Point Agenda, and together we will build a better nation.’
Hon. Bakary Bunja Darboe, Leader of Gambia for All Party, who joined an alliance with UDP called on Gambians to massively vote for a UDP-led government.
