With less than a month to go before the Africa Cup of Nations starts in Cameroon, Gambia’s head coach Tom Saintfiet has released a provisional squad of forty players.

The team will be trimmed to 28 players on time, that will travel to Cameroon for the continental showpiece.

After coming under widespread criticism for recently leaving out players who were integral during the qualifiers in most of the Gambia’s recent International friendlies. Coach Tom Saintfiet has included veteran team captain Pa Modou Jagne, Modou Jobe, Ebrima Sohna, Dawda Ngum, among other players.

The list also included goal poachers Assan Ceesay and Dembo Darbo both of who are in a red hot form. Midfielder Sulayman Marreh, Ebrima Darbo, Bubacarr Steve Trawally and Abdoulie Jallow all make the cuts.

However, despite cries for the country’s most consistent foreign-based player Ali Sowe to be included, coach Tom turned a deaf ear to the calls. Another notable absentee is midfield maestro Hamza Barry who is still nursing an injury.

The Gambia are drawn in Group F alongside Mali, Tunisia and Mauritania.
