The country’s top constitutional court will hear the election petition filed by the opposition United Democratic Party, which seeks to overturn the results of the December 4 elections tomorrow, Friday December 17 2021.
UDP is challenging the validity of the results of the 4th December Presidential Election as announced by the Independent Electoral Commission that saw the incumbent, President Adama Barrow, winning by a landslide.
The Gambia’s electoral laws provide a period of 10 days for parties to challenge election results or file a petition at the Supreme Court after the announcement of official polls, which the UDP did.
Sources say the National Peoples Party of President Barrow serving as the respondent in the Petition has hired the services of top lawyers including Ida Drammeh, Chris Mene, and Sheriff Tambadou while UDP retains the service of top Constitutional lawyers, Borry Touray and Lamin Darboe.
