Former guards of Yahya Jammeh will be coming home on Sunday 19 December 2021 after they went into exile with the ex-president in Equatorial Guinea.
These guards five years ago left The Gambia together with Jammeh after he lost to Adama Barrow in the presidential elections of five years ago.
Videos circulating online show the guards jubilating at their abode in the former Spanish colony after Adama Barrow was declared the winner of the December 4 polls.
It would be recalled that former members of the presidential guards in Banjul, who accompanied Yahya Jammeh into exile namely, army generals Ansumana Tamba and Umpa Mendy, had earlier returned to the country.
They went through Banjul airport, but the alarm was raised and they were later arrested at their residence.
Subsequently, they were tried before a general court-martial but were acquitted and discharged by the court.
Meanwhile, TAT contacted the spokesperson for the Gambia armed forces, Captain Malick Sanyang, who said this matter falls outside their ambit and referred our reporter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs or the Government Spokesperson.
When contacted, Ebrima Sanakreh, the Government Spokesperson, said: “I do not know.”
