Mr. Abdulrahman Bah, a former state Prosecutor at the Attorney General Chambers and Ministry of Justice in Banjul has been appointed as the new Gambia Football Federation Integrity officer, The Alkamba Times can report.
A lawyer by training, Bah replaces Superintendent Almameh Manga, who was appointed by GFF on February 9th, 2020 to serve as its integrity officer in line with FIFA requirement for all member associations to appoint an integrity officer but later resigned in February 2021.
Barrister Bah was appointed in September 2021 and since then has undergone training organized by FIFA on the roles and responsibilities of Integrity Officers within the FA setup.
Confirming his appointment with Alkamba Times from Qatar, where he is currently with the National Football Team said: ” I am expected to deliver an Integrity Briefing to the entire delegation before we depart for the Afcon in Cameroon,”
” Given my background as a former prosecutor and a Legal and compliance officer at GRA, I am equipped with the requisite skill set to discharge my responsibilities in this new role creditably. The GFF has so far given me all the support required to succeed in this new role,” He said.
Reacting further, the former state counsel added: ” I am excited to take on this new role on a part-time basis. It affords me a great opportunity to work with FIFA, CAF and GFF on integrity and compliance-related issues in football. As you may be aware, the footballing world was rocked with corruption and integrity issues recently and this led to the creation of an Integrity Division within FIFA itself and this has been cascaded to FA’s around the world. It’s a new role and so far, I found the role very fulfilling. I have already undergone a series of pieces of training to prepare for the new role and I am hoping to make a great impact in this new role.”
In relation to the Afcon, we (Integrity Officers) of the 24 teams that qualified also went through training to prepare us for integrity issues that may arise in the Afcon, the young legal luminary informed the Alkamba Times.
Mr. Bah holds double masters in Intellectual property Law from Africa University, Mutare, Zimbabwe and International commercial law from the University of Birmingham, UK.
