The former Nigerian national team captain Jay-Jay Okocha has admitted that there is quality in the Gambia’s team, but their style of play makes them the worst team in the Africa Cup of Nations.
“They have many quality players but in terms of the level of play, The Gambia has been the worst team in AFCON, I hope they try to play than sit and defend”, Okocha said.
” To defend every game will not work against teams like Cameroon, you’ll get exposed and that’s what happened”, the former AFCON winner with Nigeria added.
Okocha further said the performance displayed by The Gambia in the quarter-finals will leave one to question how they reach the stage.
“It was only about Cameroon you almost ask how did the Gambia make the quarter-finals with this performance. They could have done better, Cameroon’s defense is shaky as they had been conceding every game.”
Jay Jay Okocha is a former AFCON winner with Nigeria in 1994. He played for clubs like PSG, Bolton Wanderers, and Hull City among others.
