Prominent Gambian journalist and media entrepreneur Sainey MK Marenah is tonight being awarded a Certificate of Honor at the grand premiere of the documentary The Journey of Alkamba/Kudang at the Gambia Tourism & Hospitality Institute (GTHI) Hotel School.

A proud native of Kudang, Marenah, Founder and CEO of Alkamba Times, was recognized for his trailblazing contributions to Gambian media and his steadfast support for community development. The award celebrates his rise from early work at private and public media houses to the establishment of Alkamba Times in the United States, now one of the most influential online platforms covering Gambian affairs.

The Award was received on his behalf by the TAT Deputy Editor-in-Chief, Yaya B. Baldeh.

Reacting to the honor, Marenah said:

“I am deeply humbled and profoundly grateful to receive this Certificate of Honor from my own people. To have the journey of Alkamba/Kudang recognized on the same night my little contribution is also celebrated means everything to me.

This award is not just for me — it belongs to every Kudang son and daughter who dared to dream beyond our shores, and to every reader who has stood with Alkamba Times. From the day I chose to name my platform after our original name ‘Alkamba’, my mission has been simple: to tell our story with dignity, truth, and pride.

Tonight, as we premiere this historic documentary, I renew my commitment to continue shining light on our rich heritage, our unsung heroes, and the unbreakable spirit of our community. Thank you, Bora Ceesay and the Organizing Committee. This is a proud moment for every child of Kudang.”

The award forms part of a memorable evening that also features the premiere of Mr. Bora Ceesay’s five-year documentary project, cultural performances, and tributes to distinguished sons and daughters of Kudang.
