Banjul City Council Mayor Secures International Support for Disability Initiatives


 In an official visit to Austria, the Lord Mayor of Banjul City Council, Rohey Malick Lowe, secured significant commitments to bolster support for individuals with disabilities in The Gambia. The culmination of her visit featured a pivotal meeting with the Austrian Minister of Health and the Policy Office responsible for disability affairs.

This meeting proved to be exceptionally productive, as Austrian officials pledged to assist in mobilizing critical equipment for Gambian organizations dedicated to supporting individuals with disabilities. Additionally, they committed to facilitating connections with international partners to ensure sustained future collaboration. Mayor Lowe expressed profound admiration for the Austrian authorities’ dedication to enhancing the lives of those with disabilities.

“I was deeply impressed by their genuine interest and the considerable efforts they are prepared to invest to ensure that people living with disabilities in The Gambia receive the necessary equipment,” Mayor Lowe stated.

She extended heartfelt gratitude to Christine Steger of the Federal Ombudsman for Persons with Disabilities and Martin Zach of the Federal Ministry of the Republic of Austria, as well as their respective teams, for their unwavering support. Moreover, she acknowledged the Institute of Regions of Europe for meticulously organizing her meetings in Austria.
