The President of the Republic of The Gambia, Adama Barrow renewed his government’s commitment to strengthening relations with neighboring Senegal as Banjul hosted the 3rd Senegalo-Gambia Presidential Council Meeting.
President Barrow relayed this commitment in his address during the presidential council meeting with President Macky Sall who jetted into Banjul with a massive entourage of senior Senegalese government officials at the Sir Dawda Kairaba International Conference Center.
“As an assurance, I firmly renew my government’s commitment to deepening our collaboration with you,” Barrow told President Sall and his delegation.
Defending his commitments to strengthening the relationship the two countries shared, Barrow said that through dialogue and understanding, the two heads of state can successfully and collectively propel their development agenda to the citizens of both countries.
“Through dialogue, understanding, and a shared vision, we can successfully address our development agenda, build bridges of trust, and promote stability within our region. Let us seize this moment to reaffirm our belief and commitment to this enduring partnership and natural bonds of family and peaceful coexistence, which we love to promote and safeguard in our nation and regional interests,” The Gambian leader affirmed.
President Barrow welcomed his Senegalese counterpart to their biennial joint presidential meeting to collectively discuss issues of mutual interest to strengthen longstanding mutual relations between The Gambia and Senegal.
While renewing his commitment to working closely and deepening bilateral cooperation with Senegal, President Barrow lauded Macky Sall for not contesting the 2024 presidential election in Senegal, stating that Sall has revitalized democracy in Senegal.
“Your recent declaration to voluntarily step down after two terms of your presidency has not only generated hope but also revitalized the democratic aspirations of your citizens and the people of the ECOWAS sub-region,” Barrow commended President Sall.
During the meeting, Barrow honored Macky Sall with an insignia of the grand commander of the order of the Republic of The Gambia as a show of appreciation for his support of his government.
The meeting ended with the signing of cooperation agreements in different areas of interest.
