The Brusubi Magistrates’ Court has announced a coroner’s inquest into the death of young Senegalese content creator Ibrahim Kalilou Diallo, popularly known on social media as “L’Homme de Ziguinchor,” nearly a month after his controversial death during a drug enforcement operation in Kerr Sering.
According to a public notice issued by the court’s Registrar, Magistrate Mamsamba Jallow has been appointed Coroner to conduct an inquest into Diallo’s death. The court is inviting anyone with information that could assist the proceedings to submit a statement to the Registrar’s office.
The inquest is expected to examine the circumstances surrounding Diallo’s death and could provide answers to questions that have persisted since the fatal incident.
Diallo died on the night of August 15, 2026, after falling from the second floor of a building in Kerr Sering during an operation involving officers of the Drug Law Enforcement Agency, The Gambia (DLEAG). He was subsequently taken to Kanifing General Hospital, where he was reportedly pronounced dead.
Initial media reports, citing sources familiar with the operation, said DLEAG officers raided the residence following intelligence concerning suspected drug-related activities. Reports said four packages of suspected “skunk” cannabis were allegedly discovered in a wardrobe and that Diallo attempted to escape through a balcony before falling.
However, that account was subsequently disputed by an alleged eyewitness, who claimed Diallo did not attempt to flee or jump and questioned the conduct of the officers during the operation.
The conflicting accounts triggered public concern in both The Gambia and Senegal and intensified calls for an independent determination of what happened.
The coroner’s inquest now provides a judicial process through which witnesses and evidence can be examined to establish the circumstances and cause of Diallo’s death.
