Gambians to start European campaign on Wednesday


The Champions League and Conference League round one qualifiers kicks off on Wednesday and Thursday respectively. Haruna Rashid Njie, Muhammed Susso, and Lamin Ceesay are expected to make their debuts following their recent moves to Latvia and Estonia. Dembo Darboe, who played for FC Ordabasy, will be making his 23rd European appearance after previously scoring thrice including a goal against Dinamo Tbilisi.

Match day one consists Noah Sonko’s Ludogorets hosting Bubacarr Tambedou’s Dinamo Batumi. Tambedou scored twice in his debut match for the Georgian outfit. The Georgian champions will be hoping to go beyond the third round and will be counting on Tambedou’s experience which dates back to 2022 against Anderlecht ย when Paide reached the third round of the qualifiers.

Former Banjul United midfielder Momodou Jatta’s FC Sarajevo will travel to Kazahstan to take on Aktobe.

RFS will be hoping to make their second appearance at the European Conference League after making the group stage in 2022.

Gambian participation has increased lately, with both Ebrima Colley and Yankuba Minteh scoring in the last season’s Champions League.
