One of the ruling National People’s Party’s favorite candidates for the Brikama Area Council (BAC) chairmanship, Ahmad Gitteh, has ruled out participating in another primary after the first round of the party’s selection in the region ended in a heated controversy.
On Wednesday, March 8, 2023, the NPP selected candidates for all administrative regions to contest in the local government councils and municipalities’ upcoming mayoral and chairmanship elections nationwide.
However, West Coast Region remained unconfirmed following a controversy in the process.
The first round of the primaries claimed equal votes between the top two contenders, Ahmed Gitteh and Seedy Ceesay, with each scoring 30. However, this was disputed by Gitteh and the team, who claimed winners of the selection and said they scored 31 instead.
The party has now decided to reschedule the primary for the two of their candidates again on Tuesday, March 14, 2023.
“As I stated in my recorded audio, I want to clarify that I won the first round of NPP primaries. Therefore, I am not participating in any other primaries,” Gitteh wrote on his Facebook page.
“If you want to deny me my victory, go ahead. Our next line of action shall be communicated to all of you genuine Gambians and supporters of truth. Until then, we leave everything to Allah,” Gitteh added.
