The Kora boys, Jaliba United, produced a scintillating display in the second half to claw their way back from a first-half 1-0 deficit to win 2-1 over Touray’s Football Academy in the final of the Brikama Sports Committee Knockout trophy name after the late Ma-Saikou Bojang.
Ebriheema Jarjue of Touray’s Academy broke the deadlock just minutes before the halftime break when he poked the ball into the net from the crowded Jaliba United defense.
The Kora boys, Jaliba United, turn their doubters into believers when they twist the scoreline to their favor in the second stanza.
Substitute Lamin Ndong leveled and brought sanity to the final with a fine solo goal. He outpaces his marker, cuts inside two defenders, and unleashes a shot into the low bottom corner in the 65 minutes.
Ndong later turned provided to strengthen his super sub hymn further. Then, finally, the ever-green Domingo Manneh put the Kora Boys ahead for the first time in the Late Ma-Saikou Bojang’s Knockout Final.
Domingo receives an acceptable pass from Lamin Ndong. Domingo Dummy is the defender before he fires the ball into the net with his weak left foot to send the vociferous Jaliba United supporters into an ecstatic celebration.
Foday Jaiteh, the head coach of Jaliba United, was in a joyful mood; he said after winning the Knockout, his team’s concentration is now on the League final, where they will face Kabafita United.
“Let’s fans keep supporting the team, the management, and everyone connected to the boys. We are going for the double, and In Sha Allah, we will win it,” Foday Jaiteh said.
Ansumana Camara, the Secretary General of the Brikama Sports Committee (BSC), described the late Ma-Saikou Bojang, an ex-president of BSC, as a “legend” and “one of the best sons” of Brikama.
“He was a legend, and history told us that Masaikou was one of the greatest footballers to have played for Brikama. His community service is unmatched and unquestionable, and undoubtedly Mr. Bojang was one of the best sons of our land. One time president of BSC, and had served the Gambia at National level in sports.” He said.
Jaliba United went home with replica gold medals, a giant trophy, and a cash prize of D40,000 as winners, and Touray’s FA received replica silver medals and a consolation prize of D30,000.
